I want to make any long page title I create my ( H1 tag) split on two lines where I specifically want it to do so it looks and reads right when seen on page as two sentences.
Right now using lifestyle theme you create page titles in the standard title field area BUT... it decides where name of long page titles starts on next line etc and most times it can look awful I have no say in the matter!PLus I would like to be able to if wanted create a different color text to each line of words one above the other so any longer page titles can look quite nice top line say black bottom line of text say red.
I did find a plugin that can do this called genesis title toggle plugin it can break paget titles up where you want it to and add any color to text ....
As you do the page title name using this within the actual top of the page content main area as a H1
***however according to google webmaster tools whenever pages have been done this way using the plugin, it comes up as error missing entry title under Structured Data issues it finds.
This is an ideal plugin for my page title split and text color outcome I wanted to be able to apply and do .... BUT big concern Google MIGHT not be correctly finding my page title and correct seo applied to it due to using this plugin - not sure but hey webmaster tools say what is says.I am newbie in doing any kind of code so How might I achieve doing what I explained please much appreciated or any insights /feedback on using this plugin I mentioned be ok google ranking or not really?
Jenny
We use genesis lifestyle Version: 2.1.2 and Lifestyle theme version 1.0
August 17, 2014 at 8:39 pm #119442Tony @ AlphaBlossomMemberHello,
I think I understand what you want to do. The WordPress title field allows you to use html...that's probably the easiest way.
When you're creating a post or page, you can enter your title like this:
First part of title with default color and <span style="display: block; color: #ff9900;">second part of the title, on a second line with a different color.</span>
A better way (if you're going to always use the same color for all pages) would be to use <span class="title-red-line">content</span> and then add this to your CSS:
h1 span.title-red-line { display: block; color: #ff9900; }
You can probably do this programmatically using a filter, but maybe hard to do because your titles are probably very different lengths.
Hope that's what you're looking for.

August 18, 2014 at 9:35 am #119545JennyLonMemberHi Tony,
not sure in your reply what you mean and it curing my problem or what the words you say ' block' means in the html code and will then do and give me?
ok let me explain:
I wanted to have basically the ability to 1) sometimes centre the page title text
and 2) and have it go on a second line where I choose.****
Plus have the top words in black
and under that the next words red
****(a typical layout a bit like what I have just done explaining this bit right above this with the **stars!)
My titles maybe fro example 7 words long and typically font size for my titles is 30pxBUT...Using the standard title page field right now (genesis lifestyle theme) nope, I have no choice where IT decides to create the line break onto another line and frankly can read and look awful where it decided to do it! or make no sense as such....
Plus, I would like SOME page titles to be plain black or red text for maybe shorter text titles and where it goes onto two lines:
then typically top sentance black
and bottom in red textcan you or anyone help best easiest way to do this please?
or know a plugin to do this..... as mentioned in my original post I use the genesis title plugin it does it perfectly just what I want and one actually adds the title inside the content page as a H1 (which is a page title tag as you know)BUT it (may not sure) mess with google seo meta description as I get the data structure fault when using it saying no title yet can be seen ok as page if url of it is pasted in google and full description of page comes up so confuse there!
thanks
JennyAugust 18, 2014 at 1:01 pm #119577Tony @ AlphaBlossomMemberHello Jenny,
I haven't used the plugin you're talking about, but the code above will do what you want. When you're writing a page or post, paste this into the title input field and save it. When you view the page you will see it appear as two lines, the top line will be black (or whatever your normal title color is), and the second line will be red.
Top line <span style="display: block; color: #ff0000;">second line red</span>
The "display: block;" displays the content inside of the <span></tags> as a block element, meaning it will appear on a new line, and anything between the <span></span> tags will be red.
If you want to center it, you can add <span style="display: block; color: #ff0000; text-align: center;">
This does not change your markup, only what's inside, so if your title is an <h1>, it will stay the same.

August 18, 2014 at 2:22 pm #119580SummerMemberIf your titles are indeed 2 separate sentences, have you tried using the Subtitles plugin instead?
That way you make your first sentence your post title, then have your second sentence as your subtitle.

August 18, 2014 at 4:14 pm #119619JennyLonMemberSummer, thanks for that the Subtitles plugin looks interesting jumped on their page to read more and reviews. It seems to be what I want...hey have you used it?
I do need both sentences to be obviously h1 title tags for page title seo and google etc I presume they do come out as that? On reading their FAQ seems they do though was not that clearly stated!
I can always install it try a test page do a right click page code source when live also inspect elements chrome extension thing and see if it come up as h1
I use yoast seo plugin you may not know but will ask anways ....I presume no issues with doing the meta description box using yoast and page title with Subtitles plugin Yoast sees it ok? and hopefully google search meta description once listed see page name ok and correct meta description? (the other plugin seemed not do so hence my question....!!)
Again I can always create a page ansd some content as a test then do fetch for google webmaster tools to that page using this Subtitles plugin as a simple test using and then ----- see how Google views my page description content and title meta description etc - once it starts to see it in the serps!
Your thoughts please Summer?
August 18, 2014 at 9:40 pm #119689SummerMemberI played with it on a test site, and I honestly don't recall if both were H1 or not. I guess I could set that up again and check, but none of my test/dev sites are indexed so I wouldn't be able to tell you what Google thinks of the subtitle usage.
I also had to stop using Yoast because when he first came out with version 1.5, it broke all my Genesis sites, and judging by the complaints in the WP.org support threads I wasn't the only one. Since I didn't pay to ask them the question directly, and the response others received at the time seemed to be "your hosting is the problem, switch to WP managed hosting using my affiliate link", I dropped WPSEO and I haven't gone back and tried it since.
Subtitles didn't seem to affect any Genesis SEO added data, though

Slice of SciFi | Writers, After DarkAugust 19, 2014 at 2:48 pm #119861JennyLonMemberMany Thanks for feedback Summer on all this stuff I asked....
I will download it and play and see if google in a week comes up with any issues to a test page . Plus do an inspect elements chrome extension thingie for how it sees both lines as hopefully being H1 .....(and do page source etc) otherwise will defeat my object as both are for page title name for my outcome!
yoast seo seems ok for me - er touchwood.... I like the idea of meta box description, it has...what are using instead these days then and can recommend ?
thanks Jenny
August 19, 2014 at 5:17 pm #119885SummerMemberFor most cases I'm using the builtin Genesis SEO, and it has a meta box that you can use for each page or post, even custom post types too. I have begun experimenting with WPMUDEV's Infinite SEO, but since that's not one of the list of thrid party SEO plugins that Genesis will disable itself for, it's been, well... interesting 🙂
I'm about 85% ready to write a plugin that will disable the Genesis SEO hooks whenever Infinite SEO is active, but I'm still doing some research thru WPMUDEV's support forums first.
It's wacky, but the biggest jump in organic traffic increase I've seen has been because of a massive 404 link cleanup on one of my sites. I started adding 301 redirects or 410 gones to a few thousand dead URLs (most from 8-10 years ago when the site was using Movable Type, and I still haven't figured out yet how to tell Google and Bing to de-index all of those), and things began improving.
