How do I show Last updated Date for posts my Genesis theme?

What's the correct way to show the last updated date for my posts in Google searches? I found a couple articles online that stated I need to simply add the code (below) to my functions.php file. Is this correct. If so, how do i know it's working? Is it immediate?

I added this code to my functions.php:

add_filter( 'genesis_post_info', 'sp_post_info_filter' );
function sp_post_info_filter($post_info) {
if ( !is_page() ) {
$post_info = '[post_modified_date] by [post_author_posts_link] [post_comments] [post_edit]';
return $post_info;
}}

It's immediate in terms of displaying on your site if post_info is enabled.

As for Google, you cannot manipulate what Google displays based on your time frame. You have to wait until they re-index your page, if ever.

How do i enable "post_info"?

I'm not a developer. I just took that code from another site that stated I needed to add it to my functions.php

Is there anything more I need to do?
