    I'd like to be able to include post excerpts on pages and other posts.  Ideally, I could provide some 2 column view with 4 featured image thumbnails and the post excerpt like appears on the home page at the bottom, based on category or tag.  Even just being able to insert the excerpt and post image within another post would be awesome.

    The goal is so that if we have a page, about solar for example, it could include a the excerpts from several solar posts and then link to the category page for more.

    Any suggestions?

    You could use the nRelate plugin where it posts 4 related blog posts at the bottom of the blog post. I love this plugin - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nrelate-related-content/. They also have the same one that is a "flyout" too - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nrelate-flyout/screenshots/ so when someone scrolls down so far - it flyies out of the side.
