I am trying to have this page list all of the upcoming events. I would

like to have each event as a post and have the posts with a category of
"upcoming events" appear here. I would like to display the title of the
post and the first 80 characters. If not, just the title of the post would
be fine. I have set the page type to "blog" and identified the blogs as
only displaying the category of upcoming events.Create a category template file for upcoming events in your child themes root directory.
Use the WordPress Template Heirarchy.
You can then use the StudioPress Code Snippets page to add or remove default functionality.
