I've played with changing the font in a Genesis theme, but it does not always work. Where are the best instructions for this?

I'm also willing to change themes. How can I filter out the themes so I can concentrate on what counts? Just the font?

I'm finding it difficult to see what makes each theme unique.

    It depends on the font.

Fonts are loaded using 2 methods.

    1. For browser supported fonts, you change the font-family property in the CSS rules in style.css.

    2. Google fonts are loaded using PHP you'll find in functions.php and then you change the font-family property in the CSS rules in style.css.

Your style.css file is located inside your child theme folder accessible using File Manager in Cpanel or FTP.

Also, clear caching both server/plugin and browser caching after modifying CSS.
