Does anyone here know how to create a homepage template in a Genesis child theme or where I can find a good tutorial on it? Thanks.

If own a Genesis theme that has different homepage style and you want to use it, just copy that front-page.php file into your child theme. With few adjustments it should work.

Or you can download template from here - http://sridharkatakam.com/widgetized-homepage-template-genesis/

Thank you, sir! Yes, I did some poking around and found the front-page.php. That combined with the Custom Sidebars plugin I think this will work nicely for the client.
