I want to remove the blog columns on the minimum home page from the bottom of the page (without the sidebar) and move them into the shaded area where the "subscribe" button usually is. I removed the subscribe button.

But rather than have them display the way they are now, I'd like to have a thumbnail of the feature image show up. Like on the scribble theme.

So, Basically, I'd like my home page to look like:

    Header w/Nav
    Featured Image
From the Blog area w/thumbnails & sort excerpt like on Scribble
    Home featured widgets
    Footer widgets
    Custom Footer menu

Or just basically add an widget area onto the home page that allows for featured blog posts to look like the ones on the scribble home page. It doesn't need to be in the shaded subscribe area as I might need to use that area in the future for the subscribe button again.
