Help for a Rookie on Template Edit

I apologize for such a rookie question, but not sure where else to go. I applied the Prose theme to an existing website I have and on first glance it seems to work okay. But there are three issues I have come across at the very beginning. If anyone has any insight on how I might change CSS files (I think that is where it needs to go), I would really appreciate some feedback.

If you could look at the Prose-themed site I am trying to build and the old site I am coming from, http://www.dragoncalled.com you can probably see what I am trying to accomplish.

1. With the Prose theme the Header, content and sidebars all sit on a white background. On the old site, the header, main content and sidebar sections all lie right on top of the main background. I don't know if something like turning the white background, on the Prose theme transparent would work or not -- or how to even make it transparent.

2. I wanted to have the Main Menu under the header instead of above it.

3. Each major Post/Page (the content sections) are on their own semi-transparent background so you can see the main background behind them. And the sidebar (I will have two with the Prose theme - one on either side of the content) has a different background. Are there settings such that the posts/pages can have their own semi-transparent background and the sidebars a different background?

In reality what I am trying to do is have the main background and then have the content/sidebars; which currently are all on white (or another color) background, be transparent. Then give the each post/page and the sidebars different backgrounds (post/page being semi-transparent).

Again any guidance, code, etc. that anyone can help with would be appreciated.

If that doesn't help out, I would look around some more. These are usually services folks offer (setting up a theme etc) so not sure how much "support" will come.

Thanks Matthew. Bob WP's tutorial helped with part of my question and a couple of other things. But two questions I couldn't find an answer to were:

1. I know I can make the overall Wrap (Content Area) on a page Transparent, but once that is done, is is possible to make the individual components of the Content area (e.g. Posts, Sidebar, Pages) have their own backgrounds?

2. If it is possible to do what I want in #1 above, is it possible to make the individual Content component backgrounds semi-transparent? (See DragonCalled.com for what I mean). If it is not possible to have separate Content component backgrounds and make them semi-transparent, is it possible to make the entire Wrap (Content Area) background semi-transparent? I didn't see that option.

Almost anything is possible, but there are limitations on how much can be accomplished through simple dashboard settings. There are resources for learning how to do what you might not be able to accomplish with simple dashboard setting. For instance at the links below you can do some hands on learning about backgrounds, color, transparency/opacity and lots of other stuff.

Did all this with the Premium Plugin Genesis ClubPro -- their Backstretch functionality took care of the above.
