Hey guys, Im gonna ask a question that will proablly make you laugh yourselves to death.
I am currently using the news theme and starting to learn about it. My question is this, on the theme the area on the right has 3 blocks or squares, they are labeled Advertisements, Recent Post, and Advertisements again.

My question is what are those areas called? Are those footers? How do I acces them? And any information or links you could pass on to help me construct those areas.

Thanks in advance to those who reply

They are called widgets and if you look under appearance/widgets you should see them there, you drag widgets into these widget boxes.

maybe google wordpress widgets and you will find out more.

    Hi,

And welcome.  Hey, everybody's a newbie at first, no worries!  What you're seeing are widgets, which will typically (but not always) appear in the sidebar(s) of your site.  If you're in the admin area of your site, go to Appearance.... Widgets, and look way to the right.  If you open up Primary Sidebar, you would see widgets there which will relate to what you asked.  The demo actually has 4 widgets, because Search is one of them, too.  So if your site doesn't have anything in Primary Widgets, find the Recent Posts widgets (lower and near the middle of your admin page) and try dragging it into the Primary Sidebar box.  Then look at your site, and you should see something in the sidebar now.

Many themes also have special widgets only for the Home page, and they may be labelled as such.

The footer widgets, on the other hand, work similarly but are displayed near the bottom of your page.   That demo appears to have no active footer widgets, though.

    Hope that helps, Dave

    Great!

Although I love WordPress, there's so much in the admin that it's definitely possible to get lost at times until you're used to it.  And some non-Genesis  premium themes have such huge admins that a pro developer could get lost and begin drinking!  🙂
