    Is there a way to place an image behind the site title and description text? I can't seem to get it to work.

    Test this to see if an image appears:

    .title-area { background-image: url(http://www.michaeljbeck.com/theme_test/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/00402492-300x240.jpg); }

    Good 🙂 That was for testing, but it would probably be easier to use background shorthand instead if you want to adjust the display/position of the background.
