Does anyone know if there is a replacement for the XHTML hook genesis_before_header? I am looking for a resource like the Genesis Loop Hook Comparison but it doesn't mention any changes to the hook I'm using. However, I just enabled HTML5 and now that widget area is missing.

Hmm, genesis_before_header should still work. I'm using it on several of my HTML5 sites. Is the widget area still registered in functions.php aside from the function that calls it? (Don't mean to be insulting but I like to start with the easiest possibility first, just in case.)
