The update may have over written the function 'agency_newsheader_genesis', which means the function was created inside the Genesis theme, not the child theme. Can you examine a site backup to confirm this?

    Thanks Tom,
I could contact my hosting company and see if they could reset a backup copy.

Or would it be OK to just reinstall an older version of Genesis? Would that work too?

I went to my ManageWP site and restored the backup from yesterday. Everything is back to normal.
I guess I won't be updating Genesis with my theme...

You really should weed the edits out of the Genesis theme and engineer them into your child theme. Do a DIFF of one against the other, or at least search the Genesis parent theme for "agency_newsheader_genesis".
