    I'd like to use the genesis responsive slider (or something similar). However, instead of the images clicking to a page or a post, I'd like them to be clickable to a category page.

    Is there a way to link the image to a custom link or a category page?

    You could use a redirect from the slider page or post to your category URL. See "Theme SEO Settings > Custom Redirect URL" inside your page/post. When your reader clicks through from the page in the slider they will land on your category page.
