    Hi Folks,

According to the just-released Genesis Framework 3.0.0 changelog, the following template files have been removed:

    404.php
    page.php
    page_archive.php
    page_blog.php
    search.php
    single.php

So, going forward, how do we now create custom 404 and archive (site map) pages?

    Thanks.

The new 3.0 update was set up to "look" at the site to see if those templates were active, i.e, Archive, Blog, etc. If they were active - they would be moved to your themes' file folder. They will not be available in new installations. If you want to use those templates going forward, you can copy/paste them into your theme and modify accordingly.

    Thanks Anita.

    A couple follow-up questions:

    1. Without a proper 404.php file, what will Genesis use to generate 404 error pages?
    2. Regarding these templates in general, when you say "copy/paste them into your theme and modify," do you mean copy from an earlier version of the Genesis Framework?

If the templates were already "active" when 3.0 was updated, those templates should have been moved into the themes' folder and would remain active. If the templates were not "active" or "in use" at the time of the 3.0 update, the templates were removed and you would need to add them back, i.e., copy the templates from the previous version of Genesis into your theme folder.

    Hi Anita
I've created a page_archive.php for my category pages and placed it in the genesis-sample root folder but it's not being picked up at all... I've got the latest version of genesis-sample and genesis framework - do you have any idea what might be going wrong?
    Thanks

Page_archive in Genesis was never for category pages. It was for building a sitemap.

I suggest you read up on WordPress category page templates: https://codex.wordpress.org/Category_Templates

@sbrody are you trying to create a template of some sort? Or are you just trying to create an archive or listing of all of your posts?

@Anita - I want to create a template just for category pages - I have a separate one for my blog listing page. It looks like category.php will do the trick
