I am using the Genesis Featured Posts widget in Agency Pro theme in an attempt to show the latest 3 posts on the homepage. However, it seems I can only show posts from a single category. My most recent posts will be from varying categories.
If I choose "All Categories" instead of a specific category, even if I set "Number of Posts to Show" to 3, it shows ALL of my posts.
I figured this must just be how this works, but then I came across Genesis Sandbox Featured Content Widget (which I installed so that I could show pages instead of posts). This page (http://keypresswp.com/featuring-pages-home-middle-agency-pro/) seems to suggest that it is possible to limit the number shown. Following those settings exactly, I am still presented with the same behavior: It shows ALL posts, regardless of what I have set in the "number to show" box.
Why is it ignoring my "number to show"??
September 1, 2014 at 9:57 am #122219AnitaCKeymasterWhere are you setting your number? Under Settings > Reading, or... under Genesis > Theme Settings > Blog Page Template?

The number of posts to show setting in Genesis Theme Settings and Reading Settings are both 10.

September 1, 2014 at 8:06 pm #122315nvisionMemberIf I remove the IDs, I have no way to specify the six pages I want to show. However, removing them did nothing. Same behavior -- it displays all.

September 1, 2014 at 8:46 pm #122324TonyaMemberHi,
I hope you don't mind me chiming in. 🙂
As the standard Genesis Featured Posts widget is also exhibited the limiting problem, my guess is the problem lies elsewhere, i.e. not within either plugin, but rather either in the theme (if it's been customized) or within another plugin. Something is stepping on the query.
A quick way to check if it's another plugin is to display all plugins, try the standard Genesis Featured Post widget and see if it limits to only 3 posts. If it does, then it's one of the plugins. If no, then something in the child theme is stepping on it (or there's an issue with the installation of Genesis on your site). You can try reinstalling the latest Genesis framework and see if that takes care of the issue. If no, then it's in the child theme.
Problems like these can be difficult to track down. After you walk through the above 2 steps (disabling the plugins and then reinstalling Genesis), the next step is depends upon if your child theme has been modified. If no, then open a support ticket with Studiopress and let them sort through the issue with you, as it's time to look into the code. If yes (it has been modified), then you need either the developer who modified it, or a freelance developer to take a look at it.
Cheers,
Tonya

Find Me: KnowTheCode.io | @hellofromTonya | Profitable WordPress Developer BootcampSeptember 1, 2014 at 8:57 pm #122325nvisionMemberThanks, Tonya. I have indeed already tried deactivating all plugins and the problem still persisted with the Genesis Featured Posts widget.
The only modification I have done was customized some of my theme's css and that would not have affected that functionality. Indeed if I revert back to the original (unmodified) theme, the problem still persists. I will try to re-install Genesis and see if that helps...
September 2, 2014 at 12:45 pm #122446nvisionMemberFYI for any interested party.... the problem was that all of the posts were marked as Sticky, which overrides the "number to show" option.
September 2, 2014 at 12:58 pm #122455TonyaMemberExcellent. So glad you found the issue.
