MemberHello,
I have a question regarding the Genesis Featured Posts for the Lifestyle theme. First, what a great widget!
I have checked, in WordPress, the Reading Settings for "Your Front Page Displays: Your Latest Posts." Now I want to use the Genesis Featured Posts for the blog page that I have set-up but when I go to find it as a category, it is not listed there, which makes sense because the blog is listed under pages, as it should be upon original set-up. How can I get the Genesis Featured Posts to list the latest Posts and then have the reader be able to jump to the listing of all the posts as you can with all the other categories?
Is the only solution to make the "blog" now a category? If I do this though, how does the feed work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ParticipantPlease clarify your question.
The blog page displays all posts however you can hook in a new widget before or after the posts on the blog page.
You can also use the Genesis > Theme Settings to determine what posts are displayed on the blog page.

MemberHello Brad,
Thank you for your response! If I use the Genesis Featured Pages, which I must have to if my Blog is a page and not a category, then I will not get that cool feature of "View More Posts" like it has with the Genesis Featured Posts. You see what I mean?
So basically what I am trying to do is put, on my home page, a bunch of widget categories using the Genesis Featured Posts, which works great! However, when it comes to wanting to show a widget for the blog which I will call, "Latest Blog Posts", I am not able to use the Genesis Featured Posts because I cannot select my Blog because it is a "page", not a category, so I have to use the Genesis Featured Page widget, but it doesn't have the "View all Posts" feature like the Genesis Featured Posts does. There is probably a simple fix to this, but I just can't think of it.
Any help is appreciated!
StaceyP.S. My site is under development and is in a subdomain of the site listed here so you cannot see it the way I have it unfortunately. It will be a short excerpts on the homepage of categories using the Featured Posts widget.

ParticipantYou can hook in a new widget before or after your blog page content and use the Genesis Featured Posts widget.
Another option is to copy over the home.php file and use it as a blog page template which you can customize/modify.
Done this before and its easy with Genesis.

MemberHi Brad,
Thank you for your answer. I don't know what hook a new widget in before or after your blog page content means. It sounds too advanced for me and definitely overwriting the home.php file too. I thought there would be a simple way to just get your blog posts from your blog page onto the homepage as a widget and then have it lead right to "View all blog posts", just like you can with all the other categories.
Perhaps I can create a blog category and copy all my posts in there but then it might mess up the feed.

ParticipantThe site you linked to is using a non Genesis theme. Can you pleae link to your Genesis powered site.
Most themes already include a widgetized home page.
Hooking in new widgets from your child themes doesn't overwrite the home.php file.

MemberHi Brad,
Yes, here is the site:
http://www.vflredesign.virtuesforlife.com
It is a development site but I will leave it online so that you can take a look for as long as I can. You'll see nothing shows on the Home page for "Latest Blog Post" because I am not able to get it to work. The top spot widget is a Genesis Featured Page, and I selected the blog page and logically I would think that would work but it doesn't.
Thanks!

ParticipantWhy not simply use the recent posts widget on your home page widget area?
Or copy the home.php file and use it as a page template.

MemberHi Brad,
I ended up just using the Genesis Featured Posts for one blog post because it saves all the correct CSS for the headers, etc. I am satisfied with this. Just wish that I could put underneath "View all Blog Posts" under the excerpt (like it does for all the other categories underneath) and it would link to my blog page but that's okay.
Thanks so much for all your help!
