    I am using the Magazine theme and would like to format the posts on the front page so that the latest post displays in full and the remaining older posts display as excerpts or with the READ MORE break.  Is there a shortcode or method by which I can have the latest post on the front page automatically ignore the READ MORE break until a newer post is published?

    Why don't you add two "Genesis Featured Page" widgets - one can have 1 post and not be offset by any dates, showing full content. Then put another widget beneath that and set it to offset by 1, and limit the content length.
