I have a site built using the News Child theme and I am calling in the "Home Middle Left" widget area the "Featured Posts" widget. The widget is listing a specific category (Adults) and listing them in Descending order (newest to oldest). This works in most cases, but I've recently had users reporting that the list will be in Ascending order occasionally.

All the settings are correct in the widget and I haven't been able to replicate the issue, but I have several screenshots from users showing the issue. This happens whether or not they clear their cache, too.

This is a screenshot of the actual widget settings:

This is the wrong order displayed on a user's browser:

Can anyone explain what is going on or suggest a fix?

My opinion is that its not accurate, simple as that. It could be because of the way the widget is coded or the way the query is coded but generally pre_get_posts or WP_Query are the most reliable functions to control the order of displaying posts in a loop.

When i say this, it could be because of the way WordPress handles different queries from plugins as i doubt anything built into Genesis is a problem.

What plugin is it? Or is it the native Genesis Featured Posts widget?

It is the actual Genesis Featured Post widget.

It sounds like it might be best to create my own code then, but I really don't have the time to do it. Is this a known bug?

Its not a bug but has something to do with the sort order or the way the widget settings are configured.

I just wrote a post about adding a custom loop for posts in the sidebar which is an example of how to do it if you want to code the list manually.

But i don't think this solution is as good as the Genesis featured posts widget.
