On my homepage grid above each post I show the featured image but it crops at the center and would prefer it to crop at the top.

To show the posts am using the Genesis Featured Posts widget.

    Any ideas ?

You can use code for this modify existing custom sizes in your child themes functions file by adding extra values to an array ( added since WordPress 3.9 ) using the 4th parameter http://wpsites.net/wordpress-tips/change-image-crop-position-for-custom-sizes/
