Executive theme – overflow:hidden

I was having a heck of a time trying to get a slider plugin to show the thumbnails. I finally figured out it was because of this bit of CSS:

.entry-content { overflow: hidden; }

If I change it to visible, will it wreak havoc on other pages in the Executive theme?

To answer your question, it doesn't have to wreak havoc. I have noticed that in the Genesis "neighborhood", overflow: hidden is especially common. I also find situations where I end up shutting that off, such as DIV's containing dropdown menus - the dropdown will be cut off by that. There are situations where floating DIV's inside unsized containers may be aided by the "hidden" thing. I'd say just give it a try and see.

I have heard that a side effect of using overflow:hidden is for preventing collapsing margins and such. Here's an interesting article about that.

Thanks for responding, that's what I was hoping to hear. I suppose if it did break things, I could target that page or element (if I could figure that out ... my CSS skills are not as good as I wish they were - yet!). I ended up spending a bunch of time reviewing other options and I think I'm just going to use Next Gen instead ... that is, if I can use multiple instances on one page.

That's a very nice-looking slider. Even so.... I never got to see your page, but as I look at that, I see some funky CSS choices here and there, and even a bunch of empty paragraph spacers to make it fit right. Ouch! HTML Table gangnam style! 🙂 So Genesis may not be at fault for not displaying it easily.

I really get around when it comes to sliders, and while slider programmers are often phenomenal, they, and many plugin writers, are not nearly as good at CSS, just as they can beat me at plugin programming. 🙂
