When I attempt to upload images to the WP media library for an insert to a page or post, I get this error.

“An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”

Interestingly, if I reload the page and look in the media library the image is there.

    I’m using WP 3.6.1, Genesis 2.0.1, and Prose 1.5.2.

The problem is only happening on this site: http://www.guruhabits.com/ All others are fine.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

    HI there,
I use Prose too and have experienced this.

Make sure you delete Cache. Are you using the WP Super cache Plugin?

Also, what OS are you using? Because IF you are on Win 7 and using IE10 it can cause this; I am having all sorts of hassles with IE10.

    Did you try Compatibility Mode?
Is the image the correct format and compatible size?

I'm thinking of other things too.....

    Hey Chalfant,

    Thank you for your response.

I'm using W3 Total Cache, and I did try emptying the cache several times.

I have Win 7 and use Firefox for all site work.

Interestingly, I have several sites setup exactly the same way, and I'm uploading the same (ad banner) image with no problems except on GuruHabits.com

I'm not familiar with the "Compatibility Mode." What and where is that?

That's in IE so not an issue if you're using Firefox.
I believe there is a bug of some form or should I say an incompatibility between WordPress and IE10.
Obviously this would not be your problem.

The only other thing I can think of (and sorry I'm a novice) is a possible conflict with an activated plugin.

Try deactivating plugs one by one. See if that helps.
Other than that I am lost.

    Chalfant,

Good idea about the plugins, but I'm using the same ones on all my sites with no problems.

So the search for a solution continues.

    I appreciate your efforts. 🙂

When I deactivate the WP Smush.it plugin, I no longer get the error message -- and uploads are MUCH faster.

So I've posted this question on WP Smush.it support page here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-message-when-uploading-images-5?replies=1

    Hope so.

    Hey Chalfant,

Yes! Thank you for asking. Your suggestion was correct. Nick, in SP support, helped me to understand why I needed to test the plugins first even though all my sites are setup exactly the same way. I deactivated plugins that deal with images first and quickly found the problem.

I'm still working with a Smush.it support rep to solve the issue with the plugin. Smush.it support is very responsive, BTW.

    Thanks again.

Here's the fix: Disable "debug processing" at > Settings > Media > WP Smush.it section > by unchecking the box and saving change.

    Ridiculously simple.
