    Hello,

I'm trying to use shortcodes in my local Altitude Pro WP 4.5 dev site, and they aren't working. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Various stock shortcodes from tutorials show up as text in pages. Shine a light?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Can you post a link to an example? If you are trying to use shortcodes in posts and pages, they should just work if you have them defined in your system. If you are trying to use them in widgets, they will not work unless you add add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode'); to your functions.php.

    Thank you for replying, Victor.

I have add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode') in my functions.php. Shortcodes work neither in widgets nor pages. Following this https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/ tutorial, I still can't see shortcodes.

WordPress.com tutorials don't apply to self-hosted WordPress sites. The youtube shortcode only applies to sites hosted on WordPress.com. With self-hosted sites, you don't need a shortcode to display a YouTube video. You just cut and paste the url into your page or post and you're done. If you want to use a shortcode though, you can use the built in video shortcode. Here are the details: https://codex.wordpress.org/Video_Shortcode
