    The continued reading ellipses contain no hyperlink on my blog page: http://plentyvegan.com/blog/

    This is what is in my functions.php file:

    //* Modify the Genesis content limit read more link
    add_filter( 'get_the_content_more_link', 'divine_read_more_link' );
    function divine_read_more_link() {
    return '... continue reading...';
    }

    I have the permalink settings set to the "post name" format.

    Any idea what's causing the permalink not to work?

    If you want to use a permalink, you have to add the permalink in your function. http://victorfont.com/how-to-change-the-wordpress-read-more-text/

    I changed the theme settings to "entry content" instead of "entry excerpt" to get the "continue reading" button to appear.
