    Hello all,

I am working on my first genesis theme and have built it up from the genesis sample theme. I have a bit of a challenge that I am struggling to create a solution for though. I have attempted all of the various guides/tutorials/walk throughs from many of the popular theme customization sites. wpsites.net, sridharkatakam.com, carriedils.com, etc with no success.

The functionality I am trying to achieve is to have each pages featured image displayed full width directly below header/navigation bars. Then to register and display a responsive widget area over that to insert text widgets in and control display of via a visibility plugin.

A guide that brings me to the half way point is: http://sridharkatakam.com/display-featured-image-header-minimum-pro/

After I complete this guide I now have each pages featured image displaying full width and positioned the way I desire. However when I attempt to register another widget area and insert a text widget, it is displayed below the featured image. I assume this is because the featured image is not a background image?

All of the guides that deal with overlaying text or a widget on a full width image require a direct embed of the image as a background manually. How can I achieve a widget area over an image that is set via each page's featured image.

Thank you very much for any and all help.
