I've been using the Flares plugin from Filament for social sharing and had planned to use it on some business sites. However, two days ago they announced they were no longer developing the plugin.

Instead, Filament is using an app deployment method to add their content to your website.

I checked it out and it looks like you add some code to your site to make this work. I'm always reluctant to keep adding code. I think it makes it more difficult to find problems when they occur - and can cause a host of issues as well.

I'd love any thoughts on this, as well as any suggestions on a replacement plugin that is an slick - and counts shares - like Flares.

Here is a link to the Flare WordPress plugin page.

Here is an FAQ about deploying their apps.

I haven't looked at AddThis for a while and see that they do the same thing. What are the benefits/drawbacks of doing social share and other "plugins" this way?

I use AddThis and it works like a charm.
