Customization of Genesis

I used Genesis for my website, and we had decided to use it without a child theme. I recently upgraded to the latest version of Genesis framework, and some of the customizations were lost. It looks like the developer extended Genesis core files, without copying to a child, this is why the changes were lost. Small things like the title color to green, and the sidebar color was green (now you can't see the text which is white) and the background color being white.

Now I"m not sure what to do - I want to put the changes back, but I don't want to change the core Genesis files. Any advice on how to proceed?

I would download the Genesis Sample child theme and do your customisations in there for the colours, then you can make any updates you need to the Genesis Parent theme and your child theme will not be affected. Do you have a copy of the changes your developer made? You could try and copy and paste those into the child theme.

Thank you - that is a great idea. The developers have agreed to re-do the customizations, I'm going to ask that they put them into the sample child theme.
