Custom Genesis Responsive Slider excerpt length.

Hi, I need some help with the GRS excerpt. I have a function on my theme (based on Genesis Sample) to control the posts excerpt length:

//* Modify the length of post excerpts
add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'sp_excerpt_length' );
function sp_excerpt_length( $length ) {
	return 30; // pull first 30 words
}

I need a shorter excerpt for the slider, but this function overwrites its settings. I also noticed that if I remove this function, the slider excerpt length isn't the one I chose in the settings.

I appreciate any idea, suggestion or solution.
