    I created a local dev site (http://dev.website.com) and updated database links and static page links. The production site (http://www.website.com) is still behind a .htaccess log in page, so I was surprised when the dev site asked for the same log in. There is no .htaccess blocking access to the local dev site, so it must have been pulling resources from the production site.

    Upon examining the source page of the local site's homepage, I found the following scattered throughout:

    <link rel='stylesheet' id='genesis-sample-theme-css'  href='http://www.website.com/wp-content/themes/genesis-sample/style.css?ver=2.2.2' type='text/css' media='all' />

    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.website.com/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/js/skip-links.js?ver=4.4.2'></script>

    <!--[if lt IE 9]><script src="http://www.website.com/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/js/html5shiv.min.js"></script><![endif]-->

    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.website.com/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/js/menu/superfish.min.js?ver=1.7.5'></script>

    <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.website.com/wp-content/themes/genesis/lib/js/menu/superfish.args.min.js?ver=2.2.6'></script>

    The http://www.website.com should read http://dev.website.com but these five were not changed.

    Two things:

    1. How can these be changed?
    2. How can I manage this in the future? So far this is only a single page website, but will be much larger very soon. Additionally, changes will be made frequently and uploaded, so what is the best way to manage this on an ongoing basis when moving from dev to production? (dev.website.com back to http://www.website.com)

    Thank you.

    I believe I found the solution. I had originally added the following to the wp-config.php file, as mentioned on https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL.

    define('WP_HOME','http://dev.website.com');
    define('WP_SITEURL','http://dev.website.com');

    This caused http://dev.website.com to be populated and greyed out in Settings > General in the back end of WP, since it was essentially hardcoded in. However, upon examining the database through phpmyadmin, it had not actually changed the links in wp_options.

    Removing the added code from the wp-config.php file and manually changing the links in Settings > General of WP resolved the issue.
