This site: http://mynams.com has an ad in the primary sidebar which counts down to its biannual event. The February event started today, so the ad reads ". . . starts today!". In a few days, it will start the countdown to the August event.

Not only does the ad have the countdown timer, but affiliates of that site can put the same ad on their sites - linked to the countdown.

I'm creating a live event of my own and would like to have a similar ad/countdown timer, but plugin I have found so far is unattractive to downright ugly.

Can anyone tell me how the ad on this site functions - or suggest something similar to it?

    Thanks.

    Hi,
Interesting question. I went through that with a client. It became a HUGE deal. Those sorts of plugins are few, and those that work are written by geeks, not by style-y people. I ended up doing a lot of CSS to make it look less awful, and subbed in new images. IMO, a huge waste of time and money.

I'm a decent coder, and you'd be amazed what a big deal it is to calculate years, days, minutes, and seconds from a date, AND display that in real time. You could try here if you really want something like that.

I grew to detest counters on sites. To me, it's very 20th century. Many people like that stuff - I just went through hell to get a ticker working, another relic of the mid-90's, and I charged them accordingly.
