I'm confused about a couple of things and I'm hoping someone can give me some insight.

I'm working (www.probate.nyc) with the Smart Passive Income Pro theme.

Under the WordPress "Homepage Settings" section, I can choose between "recent posts" and "static page". I've chosen "static page" and set a page as my 'static page'.

Q: Is this "static page" synonymous with "homepage" and "landing page" and "front page?" If not, can anyone briefly explain the difference?

Okay so I've written a short paragraph on my front page, which shows up when 'www.probate.nyc' is typed in the browser address bar.

My confusion, in part, is that it seems to me the multiple widget sections which my theme supports are all for naught.

Meaning, from the WordPress dashboard, when I go to Appearance, and the Widgets, any widget I add to any of the Frontpage widget sections (Frontpage 1, Frontpage 2, Frontpage 3 top, Frontpage 3 bottom, etc), "overrides" what I've previously set as my static page/front page. Once I add a widget to any of the Frontpage widget sections, the text I've written on the page which I've previously set as my 'static page', is no long visible. What am I not understanding about using WordPress and the theme functionality which is causing me to be confused as to why the widget customization of the frontpage seems to be irrelevant?

So it seems to me, which can't possibly be correct, that by setting one page as a 'static' page, whereon I can't use any widgets, I can't do much customization to this static page without inserting code into the 'static page' (which is, for now, beyond my abilities). This can't possibly be right; I'm missing something, for sure.

Q: In the "page attributes" section of the page I've set as my 'static page', should the page attribute be set as "default" or "landing?"

Any help would be appreciated, or perhaps point me to a guide which might clear up my confusion.

    Thank you.

This is how WordPress works. The widgetized home pages in Genesis child themes are a special type of home page. The code for widgetized home pages is found in the child theme's front-page.php. When you activate a widget area, front-page.php becomes the active home page. The front page template takes precedence over the blog posts index template. There are a lot of rules to what path WordPress takes to display the front page. You can read about them here: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/

In your case, you can either use the static page and add all of your code there, or use the widgetized front page. You can't use both.

A static home page is when you wish to showcase one singular page on the home page - like a Welcome to my website type of page.

A landing page is a SALES type of page. It is not always the home page. It can be an inner page that people "land" on to find out about something on your site.

Q: In the "page attributes" section of the page I've set as my 'static page', should the page attribute be set as "default" or "landing?"

This is only to use a specific page template (theme specific) for that particular page.
