Configuring Backgrounds and Content Areas???

Hello all,

Busy building test site for client....using Parallax Pro

Have spent 3 hours trying to configure the look of the Home Section areas and the backgrounds. Literally spent ages using Firebug trying to narrow down the CSS needed to change the elements.

Got one thing right - Overall background area of the website - changed the colour!!!

But that has presented another challenge in that it has changed the entire Home Section area to same colour.
So I need to be able to change the background colour of the "content area" to white (this area was set at 1140px wide but now 800px).

I isolated this piece of code and added the background color:
.widget {
word-wrap: break-word;
background-color: #FFFFFF
}

However, this only changes the immediate Home-section widget area and not the space above and below the widget.
And it affects part of the Header as well...
Not sure what needs to be added or changed?

Then I need to get the content to only occupy about 600-700px in the centre....at the moment it spans right across the area.
How do I do this?
