    I wish to achieve the same background as on http://www.peterlevinemd.com/ for a new website (see URL below)
    Here's the background image
    http://www.isitebuild.com/paula/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/bg.gif

    I tried to tile the above image vertically (under appearance)
    but didn't render well.

    Please advise.

    I'm seeing the tiled background ok. The 16-9 theme's layout is different, so you won't see the tiled background underneath the left sidebar (which is actually the site-header), unless you change the CSS for it.
