    Hi,

I'm not a wiz with coding, as my question will no doubt give away. So I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I am about to redo my husband’s blog using Genesis and the Eleven40 Pro Theme.

He uses his blog for publishing his writing, which he does on several topics like sport, health, wine, society, etc. His blog is a bit of a mess, it's hard to see where to go to read what, and it doesn't really function well.

What he wants is that his readers are able to follow each thread, eg. health, and read it from the beginning, clicking on to each next post in that thread, without getting sent to one of the other threads in the middle of it all. Does that make sense?

So, my question is this. How can I do that? Is it by categories? I haven't been terribly successful with those to date. So what if I create a bunch of subdomains, eg. fromthemoshpit.com/health and set it up exactly the same way as the main blog. Then set up each thread as a subdomain, exactly copying the design again, and putting links in the main navigation menu of the main theme to each of the subdomains, so when readers click on the previous/next pagination links, they will still be within that one blog or “thread” (ie. topic).

Thanks so much for your assistance.

No need for sub domains, you can link to each category individually already: fromthemoshpit.com/category/health

With HTML 5 mark up, have post-to-post navigation as well, so you can style that to be more noticeable.

    Best,
    Lauren

THanks Lauren, I'm not sure how to do that second bit you suggested, about the post-to-post navigation, but I'll have a look. About to upload Genesis and StudioPress theme to the blog. I should be able to change the existing posts to that post-to-post navigation, yeah?

So I've got the new theme set up. I don't know what I need to do so that it you're reading one post, you can navigate to previous or next post within that category, as opposed to just the next post in the timeline.
If anyone can help me with that, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.

OK, added that snippet into functions.php as per the above link. I don't know what to do next to direct the "previous/next" links to go to the next post within the same category.

OK, nevermind! I just figured it all out! I took out that snippet code, and installed the Genesis Post Navigation plugin. Works a charm! There's a checkbox to say if I want to navigate posts within category, which is exactly what I wanted.
I now have another question though, to further customize this widget by putting a line of text above the links saying "To navigate within this category, click on the links below." I was going to ask the plugin's creator, but his page is not in English.
Any chance you may be able to help me with that?

Sorry, I took those as separate questions! I haven't done this personally, so I just went to google and found this link. Let me know if it works!

Different Ways To Add Post Navigation In Genesis

Edit: Sorry, I'm not familiar with that plugin. You can try posting your question in the plugin support though, it looks like many of the questions there get resolved. 🙂
