Cant get featured image right

I had someone build my theme, and he is not around any more. Im trying to work on the featured image. i am NOT SURE where it is pulling from. I set featured image, and it wasnt showing up on my summary on front page. So i totally removed the old image, added a new image to the post that i wanted as featured image, and it is still using the old post.

Look at the coffee one that is the one i am trying to do first. I want to be able to set a featured image that doesn't necessarily show in the post but does on the summary in the front, but that doesnt seem to work

now i jsut want to change the image so it is the new image and it wont update.

So I had to delete the image, upload the new image. set it as the featured image, then reupload the original image into the post and it saved that way. so you cant change the featured image without deleting the old one off the site?

You can change a featured image without deleting an image from your media library. Within a post/page, click "remove featured image", and then "add featured image" to add in the new image.

Thanks, i have done it several times and on this one im trying to update now it wont update no matter how many times i have done it
