Hello! I would like to use the Minimum theme, but need the home page to use the responsive slider instead of just a static image - is this possible with this theme?

Yes. This slider is the fastest loading http://wpsites.net/best-plugins/installing-full-width-responsive-slider/

Or you can add a widget area and use the Genesis Responsive slider.
