I would like to use a logo in my header or as the background of my site-title area. Is there a way to bring it forward so it is partly in the header area and partly on top of the main image background image. The logo I'm trying to use is vertical, so this would be best.

Any ideas?

Link would be nice. Don't know what child theme you're using but most any div will display its background above its container div's background.

So, site-title should be above title-area should be above wrap should be above site-headershould be above body

Title of my post refers to Agency Theme.

There is no logo posted at the moment. I'm not sure I understand your explanation.
