I'm switching a theme from the 2010 theme to a Genesis based child theme and am wondering about how to deal with the photos / graphics on the older posts that are right now full size. (This 2010 theme right now at this point doesn't even have a blog archive page; so there were no 'thumbnails'.)

After I switch this theme I want the blog landing page to be in the archive format with smaller thumbnails and blog excerpts.

I know that I'm going have to use a regenerate thumbnail plugin ( REGENERATE THUMBNAILS by Alex Mills was recommended ), as I want the thumbnails on the archive page to be the 150px size; however I still have a few questions for anyone that has done this...

    1. What happens to the original size of the photo - like will it still stay full size on the blog post's individual page?

    2. Has anyone used this plugin and what were your experiences with it? Any troubles or 'beware of's?

    3. Is this the best Plugin for resizing these pics for use with Genesis?

Any other thoughts are much appreciated !

I use Force Regenerate Thumbnails by Pedro Elsner.

    1. The original size stays. WordPress generates a number of smaller sizes when you upload the original size. The ones that are no longer defined will be deleted while the new sizes are generated.

    2. The plugin worked fine, it's not the speediest thing so I run it just before I go to sleep.

    3. Couldn't say - maybe someone else will have worked with that specific plugin. 🙂

    Best,
    Lauren

Yup, doesn't make a difference - it's all about the image sizes that are defined and those are the same throughout all themes. (Not the sizes, but the way that they are defined.)

    Cheers,
    Lauren
