best way to lay out category posts in boxes

Hi

I've created my website content using posts and categories. I'm trying to figure out the best way of showing specific posts in seperate boxes. For example there's a catergory titled Learning and when this is selected I would like the 'Learning' post to display some intro text and then four boxes (sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the category) with featured images of certain specified posts that are related to the 'Learning' category.

My question is what is the best way of achieving this? Should I use a grid loop or is there a better way?

One issue I have come across is that my category list that is displayed in the secondary sidebar doesn't seem to be listed in the order I want using each posts ID (I'm using the Genesis-featured widget amplified widget for this). Does anyone how a way around this without having to mess with the database.

Any advice would be welcome, thanks in advance.

I found a way of display the posts in the order I want. I used a plugin called Post Types Order
