    Hi all,

I'm using the Remobile Pro theme and I've added a Portfolio CPT but I want to extend it further and create a sort of album system or sub-categories for the portfolio.

Ideally I want to have a main category page listing 9 or so categories, then have the user click a particular category then it would take you to an archive of projects listed under that certain category.

I'm building locally so can't supply URL links.

I’m assuming it’s possible to achieve this on Genesis but haven’t yet been able to find the resource.

    Thanks in advance!

Maybe you can use this but recode it for Portfolio CPT http://sridharkatakam.com/category-images-grid-template-genesis/

Easier (but longer) way would be to make a page with 9 widget areas and in each of them include cat thumbnail, text and link to its cpt archive page. Or use column classes instead of widgets

    Thanks Josemv!

This does look like what I need ( http://sridharkatakam.com/category-images-grid-template-genesis/)

I'm quite a newbie to Genesis, I know the basics but would need a step by step guide when it comes to recoding it for my Portfolio CPT – any guidance would be awesome!

    AWESOME this worked!! (http://sridharkatakam.com/category-images-grid-template-genesis/)

Thanks to Josemv for your advice and Sridhar for your tutorial.

I removed my portfolio CPT, followed the tutorial and added the Categories Grid to my Page Attributes in a new Portfolio Page. Result, just what I was looking for!

I've a new issue now! My URL permalink on the main Portfolio (categories) page reads

    http://localhost/Communicatent.com.au/wordpress/portfolio-6/

I created and deleted 6 portfolio pages before getting the category problem solved but how do I now remove that -6 so it just points /portfolio/ ?

    Thanks

Glad it worked, but I think you took CPT out of the equation and worked with regular categories, didn't you ?

It happens to me all the time that even though there's a better alternative, I have to stick with what I can understand and manage.

Regarding the URL, clueless, maybe try flushing permalinks (settings > permalinks > "save changes" even though you did not change anything

    Yeah, ditched that pesky CPT!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Thumbs up!

Now .... sort out my permalink
