The Genesis Featured Posts widget shows specific sizes in a pull-down for the Featured image
thumbnail 150x150
home-bottom 380x150
home-middle 380x380
slider 360x170I've made my featured images for the posts that appear in bottom and middle according to these dimensions.
Yet, GTMetrix reports:

This tutorial will teach you how to add a custom image size to the media library. http://victorfont.com/add-custom-image-sizes-to-media-library/

Have you requested your free website audit yet?January 22, 2016 at 3:27 pm #177212aaron1728MemberWhy doesn't the theme set the custom image sizes out of the box? Similarly, the installation instructions neglect this.
So, do I need to create new image sizes:
home-bottom2 320?—126
home-middle2 320?—320
backstretch2 1264?—790Then I'd change the pull-down in the Featured Posts widget to select home-middle2 or home-bottom2, respectively?
Will I have to reload each image?
Thanks.
January 24, 2016 at 7:03 am #177343Victor FontModeratorI'm not convinced that the GTMetrix report is always accurate when it comes to scaling images. I suspect that the size of the window in which they run their test impacts the results of their report. As developers, we do our best to design sites that provide visual appeal across a wide variety of browsers, but we do so using our monitors. In my case, my primary development machine is a Retina MacBook Pro. This is a high res display and images don't scale but display as designed. If I display a site on one of my old Windows PCs that has a lower res display, the browser will scale images to make sure all of the content fits on the screen. That's why I think the some of the scaling reports on test sites are erroneous. But yes, you have the right idea for creating new images.

Have you requested your free website audit yet?January 24, 2016 at 11:31 am #177359SummerMemberFWIW, to me it looks like GTMetrix is using a viewport size smaller than what your default size is, so it's viewing the images as scaled, which is what they are supposed to do in a mobile responsive setting.
So no, I would not resize the images... if the widget sees the image sizes, they are already defined in functions; If you resize the images, someone viewing the site on a smaller window will still see a scaled version of that smaller image.
GTMetrix might need to update their testing to account for mobile responsive sites, and adjust their testing viewports accordingly.
