    Greetings -- I'm attempting to edit post excerpt length on Metro Pro child theme. I first added/edited the code at bottom here in this theme's functions.php, and no difference with different numbers of words entered into code. I then poked around in WP's Customize, and noticed that Content Archives has a "Limit content to how many characters?" box; this too however didn't achieve any result.

    So, I'm getting nowhere, and would sure appreciate recommendations: I've purged the server and browser cache, checked functions.php and plugins for competition code, etc.; still no change. (Btw, this post seems to mention a similar issue, though I must admit I don't know what the "custom functions box" is.)

    Thanks for your help --

    Jim P.

    Just want to cover some things first 🙂

    You only added this part of the code to the functions.php?

    //* Modify the length of post excerpts
    add_filter( 'excerpt_length', 'sp_excerpt_length' );
    function sp_excerpt_length( $length ) {
    return 50; // pull first 50 words
    }

    Make sure you didn't accidentally paste the code inside another function, filter or action.

    Sorry for my belated reply; I didn't receive the followup via email. Yes, I pasted the below at the very bottom of the child theme functions.php. Happy to help further diagnose, and many thanks.
