You can start here - http://designsbynickthegeek.com/tutorials/add-widgeted-sidebar. And use this - http://my.studiopress.com/tutorials/register-widget-area/. We can't really tell you anything else in detail because you didn't say where you wanted it. So if you want, provide the URL of your website, the theme you are using and that would be very helpful.
