adding support for WP-PageNavi

I'm looking at adding WP-PageNavi to my theme, Metro.

After doing some research on it, both on these forums and on Google, I couldn't find anything on how to use WP-PageNavi.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can use it?

Hi Brian.

You're kinda missing the point of the thread.  I'm trying to get PageNavi to work and override Genesis' built-in.  I want more flexibility than that Genesis offers out of the box.

Which makes me believe it didn't come with the theme to begin with.

Are you referring to numeric pagination as shown at the bottom here:

?

If so, that does come standard with Genesis. In fact, as far as I know, Genesis does everything that WP-PageNavi does. Re-read Brian's comment. He was pointing you in the right direction.

I asked Brian Gardner directly on Twitter today.

His response was that Metro has a custom homepage and the homepage does not come with pagination. Rather, it's available only at the category level.

I just like having pagination on the homepage, not just category pages. But that's where my disconnect was.

Hi guys, I need to ask about this too, but for perhaps a slightly different reason.

I am using the Metro theme for our church website, and for sermons want to use the Sermon Manager plugin. However, in order to use pagination with sermon manager (according to the plugin creator) I have to use WP-PageNavi. So I installed PageNavi, and it shows the navigation at the bottom of the page, but when I click on any of the pages, it just reloads to page 1.

According to the PageNavi developer (http://scribu.net/wordpress/wp-pagenavi/right-way-to-use-query_posts.html), “Most of the time, your theme is just using query_posts() wrong.” I submitted a ticket to Genesis support, but apparently "you would have to unhook for Genesis Nav, then rehook for the new navigation" and, "I'm very sorry, but we're not able to provide assistance with this through the support desk, as it involves customization to your theme's code."

Now, I realise that it's kinda dumb for a plugin to have to require the installation of another plugin simply for navigation to work. However, that's the way it is, and it's not exactly like sermon plugins are a dime a dozen, so I'd really like to know if there is any way for me to get PageNavi to work with Genesis.

Ideas?

I am also using the Metro theme and want to add the numeric navigation like in WP-PageNavi to the bottom of the blog template pages. Does anyone know how to do that?

It says to replace the code (in Twentyten theme it looks like below):

Does anyone know where to find this code in the genesis themes?

If you're using Metro, all of the category and page templates should by default use the pagination if you enable it (worked for me).

In the Genesis Theme settings, go to Content Archives, change "Select Post Navigation Technique" to Numeric, and you're good.

The only way I found to get such navigation from the home page widgets was to use Featured Widget Amplified, and and enable the "Show Category Archive Link" to provide a link to click on to get to the regular category listings.
