    Hi there,

    I'd like to add a widget to the footer, but I can't seem to find any posts about this that are more general (most refer to a specific theme they're working with). I'm hoping for something more general in nature.

    How would I add a widget to the footer with only one column? I plan to add another menu for a few links that I do not want in my primary navigation and also a place to add an image -- each one will span the width of the footer and stack vertically.

    The Genesis Framework has built-in support for footer widgets. Open you functions.php file and make sure you have the following:

    add_theme_support( 'genesis-structural-wraps', array(
    	'footer-widgets',
    ) );

    //* Add support for 4-column footer widgets
    add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 4 );

    The number in the last line determines how many widget areas there will be. In this example there are four. Since you want one, change the 4 to a 1.

    Thanks Victor! Though, I might be missing something in my theme. I added that to functions.php, but when I refreshed the site, it appeared to remove the padding of the main container. I'd provide a link to my site but right now it has a splash page while I work on the changes 'live'.

    The footer div looks something like:

    <footer class="site-footer" itemscope="" itemtype="http://schema.org/WPFooter"><div class="wrap"><p>Copyright © 2015</p></div></footer>

    So it looks like I already have a 1 column footer with the copyright info inside it right now. Currently, I do not see a spot to add widgets to my footer in my settings.

    Genesis does not provide a widget area in the footer. The footer widget area is above the footer. If you want add a significant amount of content to the footer, use the Genesis Simple Edits plugin. You can add any content you want through that plugin.

    Okay, I see what you're saying.

    I went back and tried to add just the second half of the original code you provided and that worked for me. I had to adjust some things via CSS, but either way - thanks so much for your help!
