    Hi,

I'm using just the genesis framework, no child theme.

I wanted to ask, if I installed a child theme, would it wipe out the edits I made using the 'simple hooks' plugin and would it wipe out my sidebar?

A child themes code is loaded after the parent theme and plugins remain active regardless of which child theme you activate.

My header was edited using custom code. If I install a child theme, would that reset it?

Not if you edited it using Simple Hooks.

I suggest you install the latest version of the Genesis Sample child theme and add any code changes to this child theme which will not be affected when you update the Genesis parent theme.

The code you modified in Genesis will be lost when you update Genesis.
