I am trying with no success to add a sidebar to Stretch Theme. It is absolutely the perfect solution that my client wants. EXCEPT for the lack of a sidebar. Any tips on registering a sidebar widget area to this theme would GREATLY appreciated 🙂http://ssiearlylearning.com
Where do you want to display the sidebar exactly?
Ultimately I would like a right primary sidebar widget area.
There's a fair amount of work to make that happen as you need to create a new template file and also add CSS code as the default theme doesn't include any code for the sidebar.
In theory couldn't i duplicate the default page template, rename it, add a sidebar code ....say "newpagewithsidebar" upload it along side the other templates?. also add a "register sidebar" code to functions.php and then maybe copy some css for the sidebar from another similar theme and tweak it?
I actually tried this and i think i missed something.
Well please let me know if you manage to do it! That would be awesome to know. I am just a little over my head here.
Any news on this? I am looking to do the same thing. Please let me know if either of you had any success.
Would you happen to know if there are specific instructions posted anywhere?
