Tagged: local fonts
Hello, I would like to add local fonts and have also found help with this (https://my.studiopress.com/documentation/tutorials/design/how-to-host-google-fonts-locally/).
My question is, if I do this, will the entries still be included after the next update of the child theme "Essence Pro", or do I have to re-enter everything in functions.php and style.css and save it?
Child themes are rarely, if ever, updated. They are never updated automatically. If an updated child theme is released, updating is a manual process that requires comparing what's new with your customizations and deciding if it's worth upgrading or not.
Child themes aren't updated regularly because the functionality is built into the Genesis Framework. The Framework is updated regularly, but it has no impact on your child theme.
"will the entries still be included" - What entries are you asking about? Posts, pages, or the edits you make to the style sheet?
Posts and pages are stored in the WordPress database. Changing or updating a theme has no impact on content. If you're asking about the style sheet, this is where the manual comparison is required.
You should use a core functionality plugin for your custom code and custom CSS is you are concern. Many of the StudioPress themes have been or will be updated to meet Core Web Vitals. If you add anything to your functions file or directly to the stylesheet, they could possibly be overwritten.
The changes coming on the 8th (see blog) include the themes that *will not* be updated but will be archived. They'll only receive security updated. But the following will be updated moving forward since they will be remaining.
The StudioPress themes that will NOT be archived include Genesis Sample, Revolution Pro, Monochrome Pro, Authority Pro, Essence Pro, Magazine Pro, Altitude Pro, Infinity Pro, Breakthrough Pro, and Navigation Pro.
They are aware of the Core Web Vitals and CLS so themes that require an update will most likely receive them.
