Add a CSS class to an HTML Element

Through this code in my functions.php I put in a custom logo image which should go on top of my header image

add_action('genesis_header', 'wpsites_home_page_logo_image' );

function wpsites_home_page_logo_image() {

echo '<a href="' . esc_url( home_url( '/' ) ) . '"><img src="' . get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/images/amakido.png" /></a>';
}
 genesis();

I have trouble selecting the created image with CSS via pseudo classes. So I want to give it a custom CSS class that I can manipulate in my styles.css. How do I manage to do that?...

You can just add the class attribute and value into the img tag - then target that
