MemberHello. I would like to add 5 custom menus to my Agentpress theme. I already have primary and can probably use Secondary for one of them but I would like to create then 5 new menus which I can then add to various widgeted areas on the site by using the Custom Menu widget. I am trying to come up with a workaround for the Agentpress Search Listings because it is not quite doing what I need, if I can set up some custom menus I think I can replace the Search Listings widget with custom menus.

MemberAnd to add to this post, same topic, I did add a secondary navigation menu as a custom menu in a homepage widget, but it does not have the same styling as the primary nav. I don't care about color etc. but I would like the secondary menu items to appear on hover. I could even add a mega menu here, but the goal is to create a dropdown menu that can appear in a widgeted area. Thanks!

MemberSo if you want to put a menu in a widget, you don't need to assign it to primary or secondary. You just create it, and then in the widget you're able to choose the menu by name. Primary/secondary are used to identify pre-set locations that a menu can be inserted.
If you do want to go that route, there's a tutorial by Brad here: http://wpsites.net/web-design/adding-additional-nav-menus-in-genesis/.
As far as styling, it sounds like what you need isn't included out-of-the-box. You'll need to add these styles in yourself -- but you can probably do this by copying the original styles and changing the selectors so that they apply to your custom menus, too.

MemberThank you so much Lauren! You are right, I think I was making too much of this. I ended up just adding new menus in the dashboard and styling them, I don't know why I had it in my head that I had to register new. I appreciate the clarity and feedback!

MemberGlad I got you in the right direction -- helps that you had a clear idea of what you needed already. 🙂
Cheers,

MemberYeah I never thought about using a custom menu to replace a search before, but if you are very specific in what items you want the user to be able to search, it actually kind of works, I'll probably use this as a workaround again. Thank you again for the time 🙂
