    Hey there I added the folowing code to the functions.php file to get 4 footer widgets showing on my development of the genesis sample child theme.

    // Add support for 4-column footer widgets
    add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 4 );

    But in the admin widget area I only see 3 footer widgets.  Am I missing something here ?

    Hi,
    That's wild... what you did above is exactly right and normal, and I do that all the time. Unless you forgot to "save", but I would guess that you did that.

    Beyond that, I have one more idea, and it's obscure. On some hosts, the server is set up so that you can't edit your files from the WordPress admin, and one must go into the server via FTP or other method and "relax" the file permissions. But I still doubt this is happening, because you would have seen an error message when trying to save, and you didn't mention that.

    If those don't work, I don't know, maybe something else is amiss.

    We'll I am Special !!!

    Left the theme support for 3 widget areas at the bottom of the functions file.  Too much work = allot of basic slip ups *Panic*.

    Sorry for wasting any time

    Craig,
    I hear you, no worries! In fact, I congratulate you for finding the right spot in the code! You're way ahead of many people. 🙂

    etchattic,

    You also need to change

    // Add support for 3-column footer widgets
    add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 3 );

    to 4 in lieu of 3 in the functions.php file.....

    // Add support for 4-column footer widgets
    add_theme_support( 'genesis-footer-widgets', 4 );
